Jump Start

Problem:  How to “Jump Start” your car, when battery dies?

Technical Term: Jump Start

Types of vehicle in concern: Both diesel and petrol vehicles.

Wikipedia definition: A jump start, also called a boost, is a method of starting an automobile or other vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine when the vehicle's battery has been discharged. A second battery (often in another vehicle) is temporarily connected to provide starting power to the disabled vehicle. Once the disabled vehicle's engine is running, its alternator or generator should recharge the dead battery, so the second battery can be disconnected.

Requirements:
  1.  Two Jumper Cables
  2. A second car in a running condition with charged battery.

Procedure: To jump start the vehicle, follow the below stated steps-

  1. Take two Jumper Cables; connect one to positive terminal of the charged battery on second car.
  2. Connect this cable to the positive terminal of battery of your car.
  3. Take the second jumper cable and connect it to the negative terminal of battery on the second car.
  4. This second cable should then, in turn, be connected to a solid, unpainted metallic part on your car.
  5. Now, turn on the engine on the second car.
  6. Increase the engine speed a little bit and maintain it for approximately 5 minutes. This will help to recharge your battery.
  7. While maintaining this speed on second car, start your car.
